R+P Post 4: Audience groups of interest

Age

The target audience we would want to appeal to would be around the 16-25 year old age bracket. Due to the fact that our artist would be within this range as a 19 year old.
It would be a simple age group for marketing, as they can be reached though social media, which the majority of this age bracket constantly use.

Personality

To appeal to our age bracket of teenagers of this generation, it seems a good idea to have a politically conscious artist that would have passions stemming from their social awareness, so that they could then spread their views to attract attention and appeal from the target audience using hashtags on social media.
As well as this the artist could appeal to the age bracket with a trendy, urban vibe, so the artist could advocate a London centric personality to appeal to a teenage audience, who romanticise the urban environment especially in music culture with such artists as Loyle Carner, Amy Winehouse and Mabel, Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei, Alfa Mist, Hawkhouse and Etta Bond.


Genre

The conventional London-appealing, teenage music audience seem to like such artists like Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei and Etta Bond, whom all fit into the category of the Neo-soul genre.
Just as the name suggests this is a modern music genre that takes a different take on to soul music of the past with more of an alternative feel.
The music has become quickly popular with the target audience due to sounding chilled out, new and emotional. Therfore, it only seems right that our artist would fit underneath this genre with their music.

Uses and Gratifications

The fundamental reasons behind listening to music in our target audience were in order to bond well with others socially, as a form of escapism or purely for entertainment purposes.
Ideally our song would fit into all of these reasons perhaps with strong underlying, emotional undertones that people listening to the music can resonate with. It also needs to stay entertaining throughout instead of some niche, long winded, experimental song that would most likely not appeal to the target audience.
